An Taoiseach Enda Kenny has welcomed confirmation that an application for Raheens Wood outside Castlebar was successful in being selected under the NeighbourWood Scheme. The recently re-opened NeighbourWood Scheme is a forestry-support initiative to assist communities to create their own 'close-to-home' woodland amenities. An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny launched the first go-kart pedalathon in the west of Ireland last Saturday, August 4. On Saturday September 29 a relay of Mayo celebrities, sports persons, politicians, and others will take part in the first pedal go-kart pedalathon to be held in the west of Ireland. The event involves a sponsored go-kart pedal between Swinford and Castlebar in aid of Western Care Association.

The festival takes place over this August Bank Holiday weekend. To start off the festivities there will be a family fun evening today. Saturday will start with a fun 7K walk/run. An Taoiseach Enda Kenny will open the rural heritage day and there will also be a fun table-quiz, boat trips organised on Bilberry Lake after the Cemetery Mass, and an action packed sports day in the GAA grounds. The festival finale will be a traditional music night in Jacks Old Cottage.
